We are all safe and healthy in Cusco! Tomorrow morning our flight leaves for Lima quite early and we will spend the entire day there exploring the city. Depending on how our itinerary works out we may or may not have another blog posted. I know all the kids are excited to see their families!

Querido Padres,
Ayer fue nuestro día libre. Fuimos en otra caminata a buscar una cueva. Esto fue muy divertido. Entonces fuimos a nuestras casas para tener almuerzo y nos preparamos para un partido de fútbol muy grande.Mi equipo no ganó, pero el partido fue muy divertido porque los profesores jugaron también. Hoy fuimos a Machu Picchu, fue muy grande y muy bonita y aprendimos mucha información. Nuestro guía se llama Gilbert y fue muy simpático. Algunos del grupo subieron Waynapicchu. Hubo muchas escaleras. Luego, tuvimos poco tiempo para comprar regalos para nuestras familias. Entonces regresamos a Ollanta para la cena. ¡Todo el grupo se duchó!

Yesterday was our free day. We went on another hike to look for a cave. This was very fun.Then we went to our houses to have lunch and we prepared ourselves for a big soccer game. My team didn´t win but the game was a lot of fun because the teachers played as well. Today we went to Machu Picchu, it was very big and beautiful and we learned a lot of information. Our guide´s name was Gilbert and he was very nice. Some of the group went up Waynapicchu. THere were many stairs. Then we had a little bit of time to buy presents for our families. Then we returned to Ollanta for dinner. Everyone in the group took a shower!

Hoy habría estado un paro, o huelga, pero no sucedió porque era un día defiestas, Corpus Christi. Mañana quizas será un paro. Entonces trabajamos, como todos los días, en la escuela, pero hoy día hasta las dos. Tuvimos que hacer cemento para establecer el cerco y también tuvimos que pintar el cerco, las ventanas, y la puerta. Era un día lleno de trabajo, y,sí, usé la carretilla. A las dos y media tuvimos una gran cena, la Pachamanca, con treinta personas. Había pollo,cordero, papas,avas, y más. Hablamos con las familias y nos divertimos, con la obra en la Tierra de Niños cumplido. Es cierto que la Tierra se ve mucho más bonita ahora que cuando empezamos. También recibimos las gracias y los placeres de algunos estudiantes y los dibujos de unos chicos. Luego regresamosa nuestras casas para relajarnos y prepararnos para otro viaje,esta vez a las cuevas.

Today there would have been a strike but it didn´t happen because it was one of the holidays, Corpus Christi. Tomorrow maybe there will be a strike. So we worked, like all days, at the school, but today until 2. We had to make cement to establish the fence and we also had to paint the fence, the windows and the door.It was a day full of work, and yes, I used the wheelbarrow. At 2:30 we had a big dinner, a Pachamanca, with 30 people. There was chicken, lamb, potatoes, beans, and more. We talked with the families and had fun, with the Children´s Land work completed. It´s true that the land looks much more beautiful now than when we began. We also received thanks from the students and pictures from other children. Then we went back to our houses to relax and prepare ourselves for our next trip,to the caves.

Hola es Guillermo (Timoteo o Will). Hoy nos reunimos en la Tierra de Niños. Trabajamos hasta las doce. Luego fuimos a comer en nuestras casas. Después de comer, fuimos a Patacancha. Patacancha es un pueblo. En Patacancha las personas hablas la lengua de Quechua. Después de visitarlos, regresamos a Ollantaytambo. Nos gusta mucho la ciudad y es muy interesante. ¡Adiós!

¡Hola!
Hoy trabajamos en la ¨tierra de niños¨. Nosotros hicimos muchas cosas en la escuela. Yo, Sr. Peña, Srta. Bornhoft, y Jason movimos la tierra. Will y Felipe cavaron hoyos, Craig, Louisa y Megan pelaron la cáscara de los árboles y Kendall y Natasha pintaron madera para la cerca. Fue un día de mucho trabajo. Después del almuerzo Natasha y Kendall volvieron a la escuela para ayudar más con la pintura. Los demás jugaron fútbol.
Más tarde, nos reunimos en El Tambo. Hicimos inventos con popotes y cinta para proteger un huevo. Jason dejó caer los inventos con el huevo adentro ¡Todos los huevos rompieron con la excepción de lo de Craig y Felipe!
¡Todos nosotros estamos bien y felices!

Hello!
Today we worked on Children´s Land. We did many things at the school. Mr. Peña, Miss Bornhoft, Jason and I moved and sifted the dirt. Will and Felipe dug holes; Craig, Louisa and Megan pealed the bark from the trees and Kendall and Natasha painted the wood for the fence. It was a day of much hard work. After lunch Natasha and Kendall went back to the school to help more with the paint. The rest played football.
Later, we met at El Tambo. We made inventions with straws and tape to protect the egg. Jason dropped the inventions with the egg inside. All of the eggs broke with the exception of Craig and Felipe´s!
All of us are well and happy!

Hoy despertamos a las cinco y media para ver el amanecer. ¡Era muy bonita! Luego comenzamos la caminata a Ollantaytambo. Fue difícil bajar porque estabamos cansados. ¡Estaba muy contenta ver la civilización y ducharme! Jason nos llevo a ¨El Albergue¨ para cenar.
Today we got up at 5:30 to see the sunrise. It was so beautiful! Then we began our hike to Ollantaytambo. It was difficult to descend because we were tired. I was so happy to see civilization and take a shower! Then Jason took us to ¨El Albergue¨ to have dinner.

Today, before arriving at ¨Children´s Land¨ we saw the South American version of ¨The Amazing Race¨ (the participants were in the square looking for their next clue). It was very impressive. When we were at ¨Children´s Land¨we worked very hard. We painted with the children. We went to ceramics in the afternoon and finished our projects.

¡Oye! Es Felipe. Todos nosotros hemos tenido un buen tiempo en Peru. Hoy fuimos a la escuela para trabajar en la tierra de niños. Trabajamos mucho con palas y picos para limpiar un montón de suciedad. No terminamos pero limpiamos más o menos un cuarto del montón. Después de todo el trabajo estuvimos muy sucios. ¡Fuimos a nuestras casas para almorzar y después de eso fuimos a hacer canastas! Fue muy dificil pero en cuatro horas lo terminamos con mucha ayuda del instructor. Este fue la última actividad del día. Fuimos a nuestras casas, comimos, y fuimos a dormir.

We didn´t finish but we cleaned more or less a quarter of the mountain. After all the work we were very dirty. We went to our houses to have lunch and after that we went to make baskets! It was very dificult but in four hours we finished it with a lot of help from the instructor. This was the last activity of the day. We went to our houses, ate, and went to sleep.

¡Hoy fue muy divertido! Para el desayuno tuvimos huevos y pan con jugo muy delicioso. Tuvimos que empacar todas nuestras cosas y ropa en nuestra mochila antes de que fuimos a un tur de Ollantaytambo y las ruinas de Incas. Las ruinas son terrazas muy grandes con muchas escaleras. Mis piernas murieron después de subir las ruinas. ¡Conocimos a nuestras familias hoy! Las familias son muy simpáticas. En mi casa, tengo tres gatos, dos perros, treinta y cinco cuies, y un Megan. ¡Pero está bien porque a mí me encantan todos animales!

Today was really fun! For breakfast we had eggs y bread with delicious juice. We had to pack all of our clothes and things in our backpack before going on a tour of Ollantaytambo and the Incan ruins. The ruins are large terraces with many stairs. My legs died after scaling the ruins. We met our families today! The families are so nice. In my house I have three cats, two dogs , thirty-five guinea pigs and one Megan. But it´s OK because I love all animals!

Esta mañana me levanté al sonido del gallo, a las cinco de la mañana. Entonces, fui al baño a limpiar la cara con agua como hielo, y entonces comimos desayuno. ¡Después del desayuno fuimos rafting donde Señorita Bornhoft y yo fuimos las líderes de nuestro grupo! Mucha gente saltó de la puente, pero ni Louisa ni yo lo hicimos. Entonces, comimos almuerzo en la tierra. Después del almuerzo llegamos a Ollantaytambo. Este fue nuestro tiempo para relajarnos y ducharnos por primerz vez en dos días. Jugamos partidos, comimos la cena, y acostamos.

This morning I woke up to the sound of a rooster at five in the morning. Then I went to the bathroom to wash my face with ice-like water and we ate breakfast. After breakfast we went rafting where Srta. B and I were the leaders of our group! Many people jumped from the bridge but neither Louisa nor I did it. Then we ate lunch on the ground. After lunch we arrived back to Ollantaytambo. This was our time to relax and bathe for the first time in two days. We played games, ate dinner, and went to bed.

Good afternoon! The students are now beginning their blogging. We have asked that they blog in Spanish, which will follow with a translation provided by Matt or me. We´re having a wonderful time and Jason our guide has been wonderful!

Todo va bien. Los vuelos , las embarcaciones, los despegados fueron sin ningún problema. Quedamos en Lima una noche. ¡El hostal era bastante cómodo y tuvo agua caliente! Entonces volamos a Cusco y conocimos a Jason, nuestro guía, mientras manejamos por varios pueblos en ruta a Ollantaytambo. Mirábamos las montañas con nieve en los lugares más altas y personas cosechando la papa. Cuando llegamos a Ollantaytambo, dejamos las maletas en nuestro hostal y fuimos a cenar. La comida ha sido muy, pero muy bien. ¡Anoche comimos sopa de quinoa! Hubo una fiesta de una observación de Jesús, y vimos muchas danzas y gente festejando y divirtiéndose. Ahora vamos a desayunar.

Everything is going well. The flights. the arrivals, and departures went without any problem. We stayed in Lima one night. The hostal was pretty comfortable and it had hot water! Then we flew to Cusco and met Jason, our guide, while we drove through various villages en route to Ollantaytambo. We saw the mountains with snow en higher places and people harvesting potatoes. When we arrived to Ollantaytambo, we left our suitcases in our hostal and went to eat dinner. The food has been very very good! Last night we had quinoa soup! There was a party in honor of the sighting of Jesus, and we saw many dances and people partying and having fun. Now we are going to have breakfast.

They arrived in Lima late last night and spent the night at the One Hostel in the Barranco neighborhood of Lima - http://www.operu.com/. Kari and Matt said the students were excited but tired from traveling. Once they arrive in Cusco they will head to Ollantaytambo, where they will be enjoying lunch at a local restaurant and getting to know the town.
The WLS instructors and faculty from Casady will be posting on the blog as much as possible but if you have any questions or need to get a message to your son or daughter please don't hesitate to call the office at 303.679.3412.
